Thursday Night Out
Join us every Thursday evening at 8:00pm during summer season for a great night out. The Chilmark Community Center provides a series of engaging lectures, performances and cultural events sure to inspire. June 30, 8pm: New Writers. New Plays. Preview: Leading up to the New Writers. New Plays. festival, preview excerpts from Vineyard Arts Project's three new plays and a discussion with the artists with a special guest moderator. New Writers. New Plays. 2011 features PYRAMIDICA: Songs of Freedom, a darkly comic musical co-created by Lucas Papaelias and Deborah Smith, directed by Lou Moreno; APPROPRIATE, a family drama by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, directed by Eric Ting; and an untitled play by Tanya Saracho, directed by Lisa Portes. July 14, 8pm: Island Poetry Night: West Tisbury Poet Laureate Fan Ogilvie and many other wonderful Island poets will be holding a night of poetry at the CCC. July 21, 8pm: Guy Webster: Guy Webster is one of the early innovators of rock-and-roll photography, shooting album covers and billboards for groups that include The Rolling Stones, The Mamas and the Papas, The Beach Boys, The Byrds, The Doors, Simon & Garfunkel and Chicago. Guy is a Chilmark resident and father of two former CCC kids and he will personally be on hand to show his photography and answer any questions from the audience. July 28, 7pm: ACLU: The Pursuit of Justice; Perspectives on major civil liberties issues from two sides of the bench featuring The Honorable Nancy Gertner and National ACLU Legal Director Steve Shapiro August 11, 8pm: Musical Theatre Lab: Broadway stars Elizabeth Parkinson and Scott Wise discuss the broadway of yesterday and today, alongside performances by 2011 Vineyard Arts Project's Musical Theatre Lab students.
